This etched portrait shows a bearded older man in a dark jacket and white collar, turned three-quarters to the left against a dark background. The sitter's head is partly bald with longer hair at the sides, and the detailed hatching models the face, beard, and clothing. A small inset sketch of the same head appears in the lower right corner of the sheet, along with a signature and a handwritten notation. The print is dated 1879 and is attributed to Hubert von Herkomer.
