About this work

This etching by F. L. Griggs, dated 1921, shows a large Gothic church with a tall central tower, a spire, and flying buttresses rising above a line of sloping rooftops and trees. Latin inscriptions above and below the view name the monastery bell towers of Croyland and invoke the dead and the faithful. The fine parallel hatching gives the stonework and roofs their texture.
