About this work
This hand-coloured print shows five studies of street peddlers, including a woman with a basket balanced on her head holding a lobster, a kneeling man presenting a fish over a basket, and a seated woman with arms folded. Two women and children appear beside iron railings, with wicker baskets and small goods visible. The work is signed and dated 1794 in the lower right, and was published in London by J. Harris in 1793 according to the imprint.
