About this work

This sepia-toned aquatint, drawn and etched by Thomas Girtin, shows a broad view of the Seine with barges moored along the embankment and a stone bridge spanning the water in the distance. Crowded riverside buildings line the banks under a heavy, cloud-filled sky, and small figures and carts move along the quay. The print is dated 1802 and is the third plate in the Views in Paris series.
