About this work

A hand-coloured satirical print shows a group of figures in eighteenth-century dress processing across a shaded ground, including women in yellow, green and pink gowns with towering powdered hairstyles and a man in purple coat carrying a large brass telescope. A bottle labelled cordial is held among the women, and the caption beneath describes a duchess brought into court with her chaplain, physician, apothecary and maids of honor.
