About this work

This etching shows a stone lighthouse rising above a row of low cottages with smoking chimneys, set along an unpaved path with a small figure walking toward the viewer. The sparse linework and pale sky suggest a quiet coastal village scene. Frank Short made this print, titled Southerness Light House, in 1893.
