About this work
This etching shows the richly carved oak interior of a timber-framed mansion, with ornamented brackets, figural corbels and leaded diamond-pane windows lining a galleried space. Three children and stacked planks occupy the foreground, giving a sense of scale. The print is by John Thomas Smith and dated 1812, recording a house in Hart Street, Crutched Friars.
