About this work

This 1729 print by Sutton Nicholls, titled A View of the Royal Exchange Interior Court, shows a large arcaded courtyard framed by two-storey colonnaded ranges. A tall central tower with a clock and weathervane rises behind a bronze-like statue on a pedestal, while crowds of men in tricorn hats and long coats walk and gather across the paved court. The fine engraved lines render the clouds, stonework and figures in detail.
