About this work

A hand-coloured print titled Snipe Shooting, attributed to Robert Dighton and dated 1790, shows two hunters in a snowy winter landscape. One man in a red coat and tall hat stands beside a spaniel, while a second man in a green coat sits on a rock drinking from a flask with a rifle across his lap. Bare, gnarled trees, a wooden fence and a distant cottage complete the scene.
