A tiger rests with its forelegs stretched out on a sandstone ledge, gazing to the left beneath tall palm fronds. A misty range of hills fades into the pale background. This watercolor and sketch by Samuel Howitt, dated 1805, served as the frontispiece for Oriental Field Sports.
