About this work

A watercolour and ink drawing shows mounted cavalrymen in red coats and tall shakos crossing a shallow stream, with horses drinking at the water's edge. A mounted figure on the left raises a trumpet beside a thatched shed and cart, while the scene is rendered in soft washes of grey, blue and brown.
