About this work

This watercolor shows a panoramic view over Rome, with a white church bell tower and long building to the left, a broad stepped terrace curving through the centre, and terracotta rooftops crowding the right foreground. Pines and autumnal trees fill the lower left, while domes and palazzi recede into a hazy distance under a soft sky. The work is titled A View of Rome Taken from the Pincio, by William Pars, dated 1776.
