About this work

This watercolor depicts the keep and gatehouse of Ludlow Castle in Shropshire, rendered in muted browns, greens and grey-blue tones. A ruined tower with crenellated top stands beside a half-timbered gabled building, with ivy climbing the walls and a stone arched bridge in the foreground. Two small figures walk along the path beneath a large tree, and a few birds fly across the sky. The work is attributed to Thomas Lound.
