About this work

A watercolor and pen drawing shows an adult monkey clinging to a pale rock with a young monkey on its back, while a second monkey sprawls on a lower ledge beside a cluster of fern fronds. The muted brown, tan and grey washes give the rocky setting a soft, sketched atmosphere. The work is attributed to Samuel Howitt, as signed in the upper right corner, and is held by Wikimedia Commons.
