About this work

This watercolor and pen drawing shows the interior of a meeting house with a central wooden pulpit, galleries supported by columns, and tall leaded windows along the walls. Rows of pews and a stair with turned balusters lead toward the pulpit, and the inscription at the top references the early Dissenters meeting there in August 1821. The work is attributed to Thomas Hosmer Shepherd and dated 1821.
