About this work
A brown ink and wash drawing shows two men in dark coats grappling violently on a wooden floor while a figure in a nightcap sits up in a bed beside them. A hat and sword lie fallen in the foreground, and a vase and cabinet stand at the left of a simply furnished room. The work is by Alfred Edward Chalon, dated 1820, and illustrates a scene from the Gil Blas story.
