About this work

This pencil and red chalk drawing shows a vast Egyptian-style hall with rows of lotus-capital columns receding toward a distant doorway. Grieving figures crowd the foreground and lie prostrate on the steps, while a seated figure with a crown and attendants occupies the left side.
