About this work

A pencil and wash drawing shows a tall, round-headed Saxon-style stone arch with carved relief panels and a standing figure, set in a garden with cypress trees and a broad water expanse behind it. A small figure stands at the lower left beside a hand-written note reading flint wall, and an adjacent arch appears at the right. The work is titled Saxon Remains in a Garden in Canterbury and is attributed to Thomas Hastings, dated 1811.
