About this work
This watercolor depicts several sailing vessels tossed on rough, choppy water beneath a heavy grey sky with pale clouds breaking through. A large brown-sailed boat dominates the right foreground while a smaller fishing boat with dark sails sits at lower left, and more ships appear faintly along the distant horizon. The work is attributed to Samuel Owen and dated 1836.
