About this work

An oil sketch by Wojciech Kossak, dated 1924, shows a reclining nude woman with a swan resting beside her on white bedding. Red drapery and a classical column frame the scene, opening onto a distant landscape of cypress trees and a pale sky. The loose, rapid brushwork emphasizes light and color over fine detail.
