About this work

Several fishermen in oilskin jackets and sou'westers haul a heavy net across wet sand toward the surf, leaning forward with their full weight. The late-afternoon light falls warmly on the figures, and a distant line of sailing boats and a pale sky stretch across the horizon. This painting by P.S. Krøyer, dated 1883 and signed at lower left, is titled Fishermen hauling nets, North Beach, Skagen. Late afternoon.
