About this work

An oval engraving shows a reclining woman in a white period dress gazing up at a man in a dark coat and plumed hat, who leans toward her while pointing toward a tree. A flute rests in his hand, and rocks and a tree frame the pastoral setting. This print, titled The Birks of Invermay, was made by William Hamilton in 1799.
