About this work

A pale, layered sea of clouds fills the lower part of the composition, rising to meet a dark blue mountain range with snowy ridges and a summit at the center. Soft yellow and cream tones in the sky contrast with the cool blues of the peaks. The work is by Ferdinand Hodler, dated 1908, and is titled Die Jungfrau über dem Nebelmeer.
