About this work

A wide view of a shallow lakeshore strewn with smooth boulders, their reflections rippling across pale water toward a dark mountain range. A luminous yellow sky fills the upper part of the composition, suggesting the light before sunrise. Ferdinand Hodler painted this work in 1893, and it is titled Maggiadelta vor Sonnenaufgang.
