About this work

This hand-coloured aquatint shows a wide panoramic perspective of the Thames at London, with a multi-arched stone bridge spanning the river and tall-masted ships moored along both banks. A large column and an obelisk frame the scene, and a dense city of rooftops and spires stretches toward the horizon. The work is attributed to William Daniell and is titled as a perspective sketch illustrating a design for the improvement of the Port of London.
