About this work

A hand-coloured print shows a large three-masted ship decorated with flags moored beside a dock, while a dense crowd of spectators in period dress lines the quayside in the foreground. Warehouses with spectators on their balconies and a smoking chimney appear across the water, and the caption identifies the scene as the opening of St. Katharine Docks on 25 October 1828. The print is attributed to Edward Duncan and dated 1829.
