About this work

A broad view of the Thames foreshore with a long arcaded classical building facing the water, its reflection visible in the calm river. Sailing boats, rowing boats and figures working on the exposed mud sit in the foreground, while a dense skyline of rooftops and church spires recedes into the hazy distance. This is Plate V from William Daniell's 1805 series of six views of London, published by the artist.
