About this work

Two paddle steamers with tall masts and rigging move across choppy water, one trailing a plume of dark smoke and both flying flags. A low wooded shore with scattered buildings and a church tower lies in the background under a pale sky, and a small sailing vessel appears at right. The work is a print dated 1842, titled after the General Steam Navigation Company ships Caledonia and Neptune carrying her Majesty's mails.
