About this work

A chestnut racehorse stands in an open field with a jockey in a red vest, cream breeches and black cap holding the reins. A grandstand and a row of distant onlookers appear on the horizon beneath a cloudy sky. The printed inscription names the horse Velocipede, winner of the St. Leger at the York Spring Meeting in 1828, and the print was engraved by E. Duncan and J. Webb.
