About this work
A hand-coloured print titled Pheasant Shooting, published in 1796 and attributed to Samuel Howitt, shows a hunter in a tall hat and riding coat seated on a rustic fence. Two spaniel-type dogs rest beside a dead bird on the grass, while tall trees frame a wooded landscape opening onto distant fields.
