About this work
This engraved print titled Effet du tonnerre, after Joseph Vernet and dated 1755, shows a storm-tossed coast with lightning streaking across dark clouds. Two ships are battered by waves, one listing dramatically on the rocks at right while figures struggle ashore and a rowboat fights the surf, with a lighthouse rising in the distance.
