About this work

A grey wash and pen drawing shows a broad, shallow river curving toward a long fortified wall with towers and domed buildings on the far bank. A large tree and a stone structure frame the left foreground, while trees and flat sandbanks fill the right. The work is William Hodges's 1783 view of the Fort of Agra from the southeast.
