About this work

An interior genre scene titled Der Hausierer by Felix Schlesinger, a painting of a village household. An elderly peddler in a green hat and brown coat sits beside a wicker basket of wares while gesturing toward a woman holding blue fabric, as children look on and one girl knits. The white stove, copper kettle and wooden furnishings define the modest room.
