About this work

A pen and brown ink drawing shows a winding river curving through a valley toward distant hills, with rocky cliffs on both banks and a horseback rider on the left path. The sky is drawn with loose cloud forms above the flat, receding landscape. Thomas Hastings made this work in 1841, and the inscription on the sheet records the view looking north from Black Stream Bridge on 6 September 1841.
