About this work

A loose charcoal or graphite study shows a reclining figure stretched across a bed with the upper body turned away from the viewer and an arm resting on the mattress. A chamber pot sits beneath the bed frame, and the iron bedstead is indicated with quick diagonal strokes. This study was made by Walter Sickert in 1909 as preparation for the painting L'Affaire de Camden Town.
