About this work

A candlelit nocturnal scene shows a woman in a red dress lifting a white cloth over a newborn infant lying on straw. Around the manger, bearded men and younger figures in dark clothing gather closely, some leaning in with hands raised, while a man on the right holds a candle that illuminates the group.
