About this work
A lithographic caricature shows a huge pear-shaped obelisk set on a stone pedestal, with a monkey perched on its summit. Crowds of figures in period dress, some holding torches and others prying at the base, surround the monument while coins lie scattered on the ground. The print is titled in French and was made by Alexandre-Gabriel Decamps in 1832.
