About this work
This painted view shows a riverside city scene with a steep slate-roofed mansion and a tall tower on the left, a stone quay crowded with people and horses, and a long palace facade with a bridge across the water on the right. Small boats and a ferry with passengers float on the grey river under a cloudy sky. The work is attributed to Abraham de Verwer and dated 1637.
