About this work
This 1897 poster for the International Art Exhibition of the City of Venice shows a winged lion with a golden halo resting beside an open book, framed by a floral wreath. Behind it, domed basilica architecture rises above boats and flags on the water. Printed in muted earth tones, the sheet also lists the participating countries and their artists, with the prize amount at the bottom.
