Marcantonio trained in Bologna, in the workshop of the goldsmith and painter Francesco Francia.
Later he travelled to Rome and joined the circle of artists around Raphael. Most of his prints copy paintings, and he kept engraving Raphael's designs after the painter died in 1520. Pope Clement VII briefly jailed him over I Modi, a set of erotic engravings after designs by Giulio Romano. Vasari says he lost all his money in the Sack of Rome in 1527, and nobody knows where he lived after that. Browse 362 works by Marcantonio Raimondi from 12 museums.
