Except for a few short trips, Jacob Jordaens spent his whole life in Antwerp, where he was born in 1593.
He never made the usual trip to Italy, and Adam van Noort was his only teacher. He married van Noort's eldest daughter, Catharina, and later turned three houses into one large home where he lived and worked until he died. After Rubens died in 1640, he became the leading Flemish Baroque painter of his time. Today he's known mostly for big genre scenes like The King Drinks, and he also designed woven wall hangings and prints. Browse 170 works by Jacob Jordaens from 46 museums.
