By the age of 13, Domenico Tiepolo was the chief assistant to his father, Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, in Venice.
He worked beside him in Würzburg, at the Villa Valmarana ai Nani in Vicenza and at the Royal Palace of Madrid for Charles III of Spain. After his father died in 1770, he went back to Venice and moved toward a more realistic and secular style. He made 104 sketches of Punchinello, the clown of the commedia dell'arte, as 'Entertainments for the Children'. The same clown appears in frescoes from his villa at Zianigo, and they've been on show at Ca' Rezzonico since 1936. Browse 467 works by Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo from 32 museums.
